DNA 250 only charging at .59a

Recently built a DNA 250 with a 5200mah lipo and the board is only allowing .59a input.
I have tested cable and charging box on other DNA 250 mods and it supplies 1.97a so it has to be in the board.
All settings have been changed to the correct value for battery.
I can deal but charging this massive battery at .59a is extremely slow.

First picture is of board screen when attached to wall charger that has verified output of 1.97a on another DNA 250. Second picture is of battery settings. Third picture is of device monitor with USB current and device board temp checked. Fourth and fifth picture with all battery settings checked. Firmware version 1.2 SP5

With Device Monitor showing you just hit the "prt sc" button on your computer.
Open a Paint software program and click on "Paste".
You can change size, orientation, and etc. in the Paint software.
Save this to your computer.
Attach the saved file to a post here.

(if you press [ALT]+[PRT SCN], open MSPaint and paste [CTRL]+[V] you have a screen shot from any program, that you can save and upload)

Best I can do on tablet is picture with phone, print screen acts idiotic. I'll try though

RCM Vapes......you lipo settings look fine. your board temp seems OK. your cells appear to be balanced. however, your USB voltage is sagging severely down to 4.26v. when the DNA board sees the USB voltage drop down to 4.27v and below, it limits it's current draw. basically your not supplying enough power to the board. this can be a crappy USB cable, a USB port incapable of providing the necessary power. you should set, through EScribe, to see USB VOLTAGE on your DNA mod's screen and notice the voltage during charging. this will help you pick a good setup (charger + USB cable).

I would understand if this were the case on all mods but it is this mod in particular. The same USB block and cable provide 2a (1.97a) charging on other mods without issue. I will set USB voltage on screen of two different mods and use various cables. Same block with the same cable produces same charging voltage and different amp. First picture is mod in question Second picture is another mod with same block and cable.

not really the same USB voltage, as you can see at 4.27v the black mod is limiting the current down to 1.3a. that .01v DOES make a difference. on all of my DNA 250 mods the USB voltage rarely goes below 4.65v. this insures enough head room and proper charging. i use USB cables that are charge only, when charging. this style USB cable allows more room for larger gauge charging wires. it could be a bad charging circuit on the silver mod but i would invest in a good USB cable that doesn't let the USB voltage sag so much. whenever you see the USB voltage sagging down to 4.2X, it's time to get a good USB cable or wall wart (USB power source). we need to provide the board enough USB voltage head room before condemning the board.

I have ordered some larger cables and better charging block but have tried all cables I have and am having the same result. I am thinking it is a charging circuit on the board and really don't want to have to rip it out and rma the board, if I do I am going to repolish the scratches from enclosure and clear coat to avoid them coming back. Maybe John or Brandon will chime in and it's a simple fix. I will update post when other cables and block arrive.

I am having the exact same issue with my Axis M17, DNA 250. Charged fine at 2a up until recently. I have a Therion 166 and it will charge at 2a using the same cable and wall plug. I have contacted Axis about this and they tell me that it should only charge at 1a and that that was why it wasn't charging at 2a. According to their website the lipo they sell can charge up to 5a and the dna250 can charge at 2a. I'm not really sure why they are telling me I can't charge past 1a. But even if it could only charge at 1A, why is it not charging at 1a? I have also noticed that when left plugged in for an hour or two it will say it's only partially charged then after using it for a bit the battery percentage will shoot up to near 100%. I set the watt hours in escribe to match the description of their battery when I first got it and it worked fine for a month until it started acting up. I have changed the watt hours now to what it was charged at when it was showing 100% but that didn't remedy the battery percentage jumping.

the dna 250 will charge at 2 amps when not connected to a PC (given you have a USB cable and charger that can provide 2 amps). it will however, throttle down to 1 amp when using EScribe.

can you post a screenshot of your battery settings, your actual battery specs and a shot of device monitor with all of the battery boxes and board temp box ticked.

you notice how your USB voltage is 4.25v? when the USB voltage drops to around 4.27-4.28v the board will start current limiting the charge cycle. does this same USB cable and charger work fine on your other DNA 250 devices? do they charge at 2 amps? what is their USB voltage while charging at 2 amps (not the 1 amp in EScribe)?  i'm trying to figure out if you have a weak USB cable/charger, something metallic inside your USB port, or a bum board. to test this, you can set up through EScribe to see your USB voltage on the mod's screen. i would do that on your other DNA 250's to get an average of the voltage drop using your USB cable/charger setup. then post back.


as in, post what the USB voltage is on your other 250 mods.

Yes this cable and wallplug will charge at 2a with another dna250. The one that currently charges at 2a has a usb voltage of 4.73 according to the board. The mod that is messing up is showing 4.26 on the board using the same cable and charger. I have three different 2A wall plugs and have tried at least 5 different cables on all of them with the same effect of not being able to charge past .6ish.

I have attempted a couple of hard reboots but am not familiar with re-flashing the firmware or where to find the firmware. I finally got a hold of Axis and they are going to RMA the device. Hopefully they will let me know what the issue is in case someone with the same issue is lurking.

Axis has repaired it and sent it back without informing me of how they resolved the issue. I did try to call and ask but didnt get a hold of anyone and have forgotten about it til now. I did notice they set my watt hours to 9. I'm wondering, but not sure at all, if the issue was because I set the watt hours to 12.2, which is what they advertise their lipos at, was the cause of the issue. That was one of the first things I did. According to their site adjusting the wh voids the warranty but they handled it without grief after I explained the issues I was having. I also noticed the chip was set back to factory. Wish I would of thought to write down my serial to find out if it's a new chip. If escribe keeps track of that I could find out for you.

The programmed date may give you an idea if it is a newer board. You can also check production date via the serial number of the board here....https://www.evolvapor.com/sncheck

I am hearing that there was a run of 100 or so boards that has the wrong component and they do this. Answer is send it in for replacement. Problem is I don't want to disassemble mod at the moment. One day I am going o out another board in there and send it back but not worried till then. It has a 5200mah battery so it last 2 days or more between charges and charges overnight so I just deal with it

@davidealda Device monitor is not showing ANY cells present. Do you have the lipo removed? 0.00 volts for pack and cells 1/2/3 could be a sign the board is bad. Even without cells, when looking in Device Monitor on any DNA 250, there should be some voltage present (around 1 - 2 volts - from the board being powered by the computer's USB). ...

I would contact Vapecige and/or Evolv. Evolv's help ticket link is in the bottom of my signature..........
