jofzert
so I received my opus yesterday, once fully charge I started using it like a normal person would, today however, when putting a new atomizer on to the device the screen went black and would not turn on unless plugged in, I checked the device on the escribe software to find that it only is getting .01A for charging when at room temperature. I then went to plug it into a normal charger and the resting charge on the batteries went down instead of up. I have no idea what to try or check, any suggestions. John
If you open up the battery compartment, is your fuse intact? The first generation opus boxes don't have much (any) clearance between the case standoffs and the fire button, which is as near as I can tell yet what's popping fuses on opuses (and, knock on wood, only opuses so far)Only turns on with USB, won't charge and a multimeter shows normal battery voltage would be the signs of a popped fuse. Or post a picture of the fuse and I'll be able to tell you for sure.
jofzert
The only thing about that is I don't want to void my warranty which is what it says on the opus website if I open it.
John
If you open the battery compartment? Really? It is one screw and clearly designed to slide on and off.
jofzert
Well I tried, but don't see a fuse and the board is like glued in or something so I can only see the side opposite the screen
jofzert
Did some more research and yep, its a blown fuse, I take it that there aren't any quick fixes for this are there?
John
Well, the quick fix would be to find the short and then replace the fuse, but as this is the third Opus to do it now, I'd send it back to Roger and have him fix the clearance issue and put a new fuse in it for you. John
Well, two of the three I have were definite clearance issues. The other was likely also, but I cut the board apart looking at it, so it is getting a brand new board.
Peter7734
My opus has done the same thing today 0.06 450F 44w
John
This is becoming an upsetting trend. Before you send it to Opus can you connect it to Escribe and take a screen shot of the device monitor?
Peter7734
Yes I can do that =) So devastated I'm in Australia so I know this is going to be long time without my opus =( lol
John
How are you able to charge with the fuse blown? Or is this an old screenshot? Also, how are you able to charge at .974A connected to a standard USB port?
Peter7734
No idea I just plugged it in and took the screen shot All I know is it went pop and screen blanked out, powers up and charges when plugged in to a charger or computer. It is chucking ohms too high, check battery, check atomizer, it fires sometimes but only low watts then warning messages appear.
John
Well, that's a bit exciting, but it doesn't sound exactly like a blown fuse per se. Will it turn on when not connected to USB? If you turn on the debug options (go to help... about... then left click on our logo seven times) and then open up device monitor, what does the bandgap read? Peter7734
its completely dead without usb connected, powers straight up when it is connected.but only fires for a second to about 2W then error comes up
John
Well, your bandgap looks okay. Can you graph all three cell voltages and fire it? Would be interested to see what the cells are doing loaded.
Peter7734
Should i try rebooting or flash firmware ?
