To use or not to use the Replay function in TC mode?

Hi All!

Can we use the Replay function in TC mode with a DNA 75C or we cannot? Since there is no a clear (and official) Yes or Not, I am totally confused.

I own two mods with DNA 75 (HCIGAR 75 nano and SMY SDNA 75). I have a RDTA FODI F2, an RTA SIREN V2 and an RTA HASTUR 24mm.  I always use TC with SS316L, 3mm diam,  7 (or 8/7) spirals, 0,78 (or 0,84) ohm and 17 watt.  Both mods work very well in TC mode. No problem at all.

Few days ago  I bought a MIRAGE 75C for its Replay function.  The mod works very well in TC mode but not when I try to use the Replay function being in TC.  The default theme (original and official I suppose), allows to use the Replay in TC mode. So, I guess there is no "ban"!

But... finding the "perfect puff" (the very first indeed), activating the Replay function, the problem appears in two versions:

1st version: Watt rises constantly. Second puff = 18.5 (or so) watt, third puff = 19,3 watt, fourth puff = 22 watt, fifth puff 25 watt! The liquid boils!

2nd version" Watt goes down in every puff. Second puff =15.4 watt, second puff = 13.2 watt, third puff = 12 watt, fourth puff = 9 watt! Vaping impossible!

Please see the Escribe screenshots when in TC without Replay function and a Preheat of 20 W.

=======

And with Replay function activated (No Preheat). The problem appears (2nd version).

If I stop the Replay function, everything is back to normal.

I'd very much appreciate your help in this.

Thank you

Vassilis

What you're experiencing is the warmth function of Replay. It allows the mod to use more power to achieve the desired puff. Depending on your build and wick it can go too far, as I've also discovered.

If your theme allows adjustment you can play with warmth to figure out where it's best. You can also adjust it in EScribe as well. The lowest setting (1) will not use more power than what you had it set for when you saved the puff. That oughtta do the trick :)

PS - I haven't seen an official statement about this, but through trial, error, and lots of Device Manager I've come to this conclusion.

Thank you for your reply @Nexolek.

Playing with warmth settings from 1 to 11, I found out that set to 9, I got better results than having it in the default setting (5).
For the time being, didn't observe the watt to goes down any more on every puff. Also didn't observe the watt to rise to 25 like before.
The watt starts at 20 for about half a second and then range from 15 to 18 in each puff.

I keep an eye for few hours more and will see...

I rushed to talk! It started all over again!
OK, I will return it to the shop I bought it and will try another one.
But until I get an official clarification if the replay is actually used with temperature control, I can not be sure if the mod is blamed or not.

Being that it performs good in TC I'm thinking you must have a good connection between the atty and the board, there have been problems with the ground on the 510 of some mods. Does your coil resistance match what your other DNA mod report it as ?  And Yes, replay can be used in a TC profile. Did you try it it wattage mode, if not give it a try.

Thank you @dwgraig1 for your answer.
Yes, the other two DNA mods and one VTC Primo mini report the same coil resistance (0,841 - 0844, - 0,851) respectively.
The same coil (SS316L) I have tried it in wattage mode, with almost same results.
Please see the below screenshots.

The leftmost is without the Replay. Watt  almost steady at 17. The yellow line is the current.
The rightmost is with the Replay On. Watt drops down in a fraction of a second and ranges from 14 to 14.7.
Believe me, the two watts make the difference in the vaping!

Did you try this:

Vape in TC mode........  do screenshot while vaping (Device Monitor also showing Temp and Temp Set added to your graph)

then while still connected to Device Monitor

Start Replay....Create screenshot while vaping ...

Compare the 2 screenshots....

Thank you @retird

Yes I did try.  You may see the screenshots in my first post.
The top one shows vaping in TC mode, where everything is as it should be, and the below one vaping in TC mode with the Replay function ON.
With the Replay function ON, the watt drops down to 9,5 making the vaping impossible.
Some times instead, the watt rises to 25-26, making the liquid to boil!

A real puzzle, I think...

Because I don't get another Mirage to compare, I would like someone who has the same mod to say if he noticed a similar behavior.
Even an answer from someone who gets another DNA 75C, would help.

Your screenshots do no show the Temperature and Temperature Set data so we can look at that.... Tick the Temp and Temp Set boxes on the left of the screen. to add them to your screen shots......

Good day!
OK, here you are...

The left screen shot is without Replay.
Shows Live Ohms, Cold Ohms (purple lines), Temp set (red line) and ranging of the Temp and Watt.
Temp is set at 210C and Watt at 17 (without any preheting/boosting)
The is rising up to 194C and watt remain almost steady at 17 (during the puff). the increase in resistance is within the normal limits, I think.

The right screenshot is with Replay with same settings.
That is, Temp at 210C and Watt at 17, without any preheating and warmth at 1.
Resistance increases normally, the resistance shows measurable variation and finally drops to 13 giving subdued vaping.
Each puff has great differences from the next one, mainly in the variation in Watt, which either drops down to 10 or rises up to 25!

From your Screenshots you can see that TC is trying to get to Set Temperature of 210.00 @ 17 watts but only gets to 194.00.  Raising the wattage a bit or adjusting preheat should let it get to Set Temperature.  We know that is how the 250C  board manages TC.

Now in Replay Mode the device (DNA250C board) manages  in the background many functions to achieve consistent repeated vapes.  I don't know how it manages things but it does.

I assume you are vaping 1 vape then setting Replay.... try vaping 2 vapes then set Replay and see what it looks like in Device Monitor.

Maybe I'm not understanding what the issue is?   Is your issue that you get the same vape in Replay as you get in TC mode but just at different Temp and Watts as seen in Device Monitor?

Hmm...I think I have it!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                I'm in my work now and cannot dismantle the mod. I suspects the mod's pole. Will see...

Think you hit the jackpot there retird.

Loxias, how'd it go?

Hi!
Sorry didn't come earlier but I sent an email to Evolv asking for help.
The responded immediately and I sent them what they asked for (the ".ecig" file with all settings), to have a look.
I'm waiting for their reply/suggestion, in an attempt to exhaust all the chances of my own mistake before accusing the mod.

In the meantime, I dismantled the pole and found out a little moist. I wiped it off and put it back in place.
I also followed retird's instructions (just I lowered the Set Temp to 190), and I can say that the situation has improved a lot.
Now I don't experience subdue vaping even if the wattage drops down to 13 (from set 17) during the puff.
But still, I don't get the same vape in Replay as I get in TC mode.

Thank you all!

Let's wait Evolv...

Hi Vassilis,

I cannot find an issue here with the setting. I think this a 510 grounding issue but it is hard to be sure without servicing the device.
[the rest of the email is instructions on how to send thod for service]
UNQUOTE

So, I returned the mod to the shop I bought it, they made some checks and decided to replace the mod with the new one.
The new mod works fine without any issue in TC mode and, especially, with Replay function playing.

Thank you again.

Vassilis
