Board component failure

Hi I am an avid fan of the DNA 200 and own 3 home made mods and in the process of building a 4th. My first 2 builds are the 2 I use all the time and get plenty of stick and have run flawlessly. The 3rd has been a bit of a pig 1st fault was constant firing and "warranty service " message after loading a ti csv that had worked great on my other 2 mods. Stealthvape replaced the board without issue ( rob dam fine chap) The replace ment board has had very little use but with a kanth coil it suddenly died with "warranty service " message I sent a photo of the board to rob he pointed out that one of the large inductors looked slight raised in the photo As I have a ir rework station and am used to reflows and bga work I decided to attempt to drop the chip back to where it should be This was a success although the temps involved were higher than I like due to the thickness of the smc All seemed well I tested the board out of the case and noticed a component getting hot even at idle (see photo for part that's getting hot) It carries on getting hotter and hotter and the board goes dead the on/off button won't work but when plugged into USB it starts up and works but the heating issue starts all over again. I think the initial lifting of the inductor was a symptom of what ever is causing the over heating. I have checked the board for shorts Any help or pointers greatly received All equipment is esr safe All joints nice Heat protection used while reflowing Bga flux used Boards cleaned with isopropyl after any work

A few things. Can you see the four leggs of the firing button, get a multitester to them and confirm that you can fire on and off by that button, if yes, is it pushrod operated, when board is mounted in the mod does it run freely, i have gear from stealth, the brass mounting rails need the sides fileing as well as the backs off the buttons to get it to run free.

Hi thanks yes I have tested the buttons and they are fine, it fires fine it just won't do the initial boot. It will come out of sleep. I make my own buttons so they alway run with a little to spare. I think the issue is with the what I assume is a fet but I can't fine a board diagram to confirm it Thanks for the reply though Jim

I recommend you open a ticket with Evolv and give them the benefit of your observations and repairs. I suspect they will replace the chip and learn from what you have done.  The issue you described seems to be a common one among a certain class of failures (not a big number, but among those discussed here, similar symptoms).

All sorted and without any fuss. Thanks to evolve and Rob at stealthvape I can't fault service that give results as quick as that. I had an ipv2 when they first came out it lasted 2 months trying to get it repaired ,exchanged or a refund even though the law was in my side proved fruitless. So once again thanks to stealthvape for service beyond what is expected
