Wismec DNA 200

This mod isn't exactly noob friendly and that's awesome.  I love DIY stuff, but I would like to have a 'baseline' and compare notes with someone else who's doing similar things as I am.

Vaping has millions of styles, even more flavors.  But with this mod I can truly personalize my experience just like anyone else can.  Again, having a baseline is going to be helpful.

So, I am using a couple of 'controls' for setting up my mod.  Stuff off store shelves essentially.  Yes, I do build but that isn't my 'point.'  I'm working on trying to have a good go to setup for the average novice vaper.  I am pretty sure I'm a solid like second string b-team vaper at best.

I have 2 Smok TFV-4 tanks.  One is my go to juice, the other is my sampling tank.  Like coils, juice and what nots.  Since the TFV has so many coil options both TC and traditional kanthol (in claptons as well) but also because they are more or less consistent with their build quality and resistances on their coils.  But again I want someone else to be able to come in and say this was what I got on this coil ect.  Or what I'd like to say is I tried your settings and enjoyed it.

could be both. i've noticed with titanium, i turn my preheat down from 200 to about 100. if i am still over shooting my set temp, i will incrementally decrease the 'punch' until i am happy with the vape.

So dropped my preheat power to about 120 getting much less overshoot, also i wasn't in the right temp range for my juice so i heated that up but got better curves than previously, will keep tuning to get it right.

Also, is it common for temperature control to drain batteries faster than kanthol?  I chain vaped on the 8 coil earlier today and it dropped my battery like maybe 10 percent then switch to TI1 TC and it wreaked my batteries. overshoot_2.png

The first puff is perfect. Preheat at 100w, Punch at 5.9.  But the second two puffs, about 15 degrees of overshoot.  These settings are easily something I can live with, and I'm probably going to do more tweaking with it.  For the time being I'm happy with those. 

Time to work on the stainless coils and see how that works out.

tc can drain batts more quickly due to the preheat etc. but it's basically watts in watts out, minus loses (efficiency of the board).

don't get freaked out when you see what the temp graph looks like in device mon for SS. it's no where as smooth as higher TCR wires. however, that does not mean you can not get a good TC vape from SS.

I've noticed the graphs on other posts about SS, and did notice they are erratic to say the least.  I tried stainless last night and unless Wismec has the wrong mod resistance set, I was unable to find a satisfying sweet spot or consistent vape out of a stainless coil out of that tank.

I did come across a guy who set his mod resistance to .0016 ohms. (https://www.djlsbvapes.com/dna200/)  Wismec has the setting at .003 ohms.  I don't know if I'm comfortable altering that just yet or try a build to see what the difference might be.

I think I'm going to build a stainless coil and see if it might be the tank isn't as conductive or if there is an issue with the mod and the use of stainless.

i'd leave the mod res set at .003. that's what mine is set at and it hasn't been an issue. .0016 sounds very low to me. all that will do very very slightly change your base res. i like djlsb but i find some of his numbers odd. 

i find the trick to TC' ing SS is to : turn off preheat (1 watt, 1 punch 1 seconds). adjust the watts so you never really hit your set temp. so say you want 500°F, set it to 510°F and adjust you watts so you don't quite reach 510. other wise once you hit your set temp, the board struggles to regulate the wattage etc. so i keep it to where i come close to my set temp but never hit it, right towards the end of my vape.                something like this, i'm happy with........ss1.png

I'm assuming you have this same mod.  I like that curve.  I do appreciate you taking the time to help me clean up my curves and provide some experienced insight.

I agree that DJSLB's numbers do seem funny for somethings.

I will try your settings and again I don't know if its because of a poor connection or the connection is perfectly fine, and I just have things turned up to 11, because lately everything in the vaping world defaults to 11, haha.

I find the best strategy with ss is to max the preheat, especially punch and 2 or 3 seconds and keep the wattage so it stays just below temp just below the temp limit.  It only get jagged after the preheat has finished if you have the watts higher than you need.

Generally speaking it seems a prebuilt stainless coil just has to stay under what ever the temperature set point is.  Solves that issue, sucks that I can't get a clean curve with a factory made coil though.

VapingBad, that actually makes a lot of sense on a rebuildable, I need to get some SS wire to build with but the only thing i have that runs stainless is a TFV4 coil, but because it does have legs to heat maybe causing my issues.  So I wonder how that would compare to a build.

Being able to compare the two will make a huge difference in being able to 'tune' for a tank or a dripper.  *sigh* switch to vaping it's cheaper than copenhagen they said.  They never warned me I might turn it into a hobby and become an enthusiast.  Well I'm off to order some wire.

IMO DNAs got it more right having temp limited preheat than everyone else, like when we smoked we didn't expect to wait for it to get to temperature and I think many people have come from less sophisticated devices where you have to max the watts to achieve that.  Evolv separated the two phases of your vape (preheat and the rest) so IMO with vary thick and/or low TCR wire that doesn't regulate as smoothly because of the time it takes for the heat to spread vs the res change you can have the max benefit of preheat and a smooth vape just by setting the watts to the watts you would probably use in power mode.

SS can be tricky to hone it but doable. try both mine and vapingbad's suggestions and even mix in your own ideas see what works best for your application.

i thought the same thing when i started vaping. 'oh wow, i'm going to save so much money.' lol, maybe when i first started vaping with my ego pen that was true. but like you, this has become so much more than smoking replacement. i am completely immersed with all the different types of tanks, rda's boards, boxes and juices. you name it, if it has to do with vaping, i'm interested. i guess i could save money by DIY'ing my own juice (which is my next venture). i only hope that vaping is still as open and innovative, as it is now, five years down the road from now. with all this doom and gloom from impending regulations, i'm not so sure.

TBH I prefer Ni200 I find easier to make coils with, it has excellent temp regulation and gives the best vape IMO, the low res issue has gone with the DNA200, you can't dry burn it until it's glowing red but you can dry burn at 600 F to get rid of most of the gunk.  It's difficult truisms have come over form people using other temp limiting boards that can mislead you EG you need res lock and max the power to get the coils to temp quickly.

I enjoy ni200 and titanium for TC, however I work all day on nickle and titanium alloys.  Please note this statement is NOT to mean nickle and vaping are an issue, but I do want to minimize my exposure to nickel to strictly work at this moment. The second I am done with this job you can bet dollars to diamonds i will be pulling my nickle wire back out. The temps involved with vaping and nickle and the 'paranoia' in the uneducated minds is so misguided its sad.  The temps required for nickle to have a chemical reaction are so high at atmospheric pressure, you would need to be able to get nickel into about 1300F. 

Yeah I'm coming from mech mod, kanger subox and a yihi chip from an ipv so my actual working knowledge of temp control is pretty limited.  I did enjoy the ni200 on my ipv4s a lot, but i couldn't get titanium for it to try it, mostly because i didn't put the effort into it outside of my brick and mortar store (I am a fanatic about supporting small local business).

I digressed, from my perspective and the general vaping community I am exposed to in my area is very 'what is my out of the box experience going to be.' Thanks to their conveniences such as iphones and things like that.  So, most people aren't willing to put in the effort to learn how to adapt to a new device.  So, they don't build much, if at all.  However if someone does want a more versatile vaping experience I want to be able to suggest to them something like this mod and update the software for them and say enjoy.
