DNA 250 Check Battery at 40% Help!!

Hey guys, 

I am pretty new to this forum and DNA devices all together. I have been vaping for over a year now and have had multiple devices. My first DNA device is the Lost Vape Paranormal 166, and I absolutely love this thing. The only problem I have just recently arose when I got new coils. These new ones are pretty big and reading at .08-.12 ohms. My device reads it different almost every time I hit it (most of the time its .1 or .11, but it has read down to as low as .08 on occasion). That however, is not the biggest issue I am running into (and it is something I have seen on other forums that this device is notorious for). Ever since I got these coils, I have been vaping them at a comfortable 140 watts, which obviously will drain my batteries pretty quickly (I use 2x LG HG2). When my batteries get to around 40% it will stop heating my coils and display "CHECK BATTERY" not allowing me to vape it anymore at 140 watts, but if I lower to around 100 or 110 watts, it works again for a little while, but will eventually give me the same problem when I get to around 20% battery. Normally, around this time I will charge the device, so that really isn't too big of an issue, but not allowing me to use beyond my 40% battery (has been up as high as around 50% battery) at my comfortable wattage is pretty annoying. My old coils were .17 ohms and I never had this issue a single time (vaped them at 110W). I tweaked my settings in escribe (attached is the .csv I used for the LG HG2's [2x LG HG2 18.75wh.csv]) and have played around with the watt hour settings, changing the value from 22.2 to 18.75 (found the value on another thread in this forum, along with the .csv file). Here are my settings in a list format:

cell soft cutoff: 2.8 V

max sustained input current: 28A

Electrical
mod resistance: 0.01 ohms
ohm lock range: +/- 14.84%

I am still relatively new vaping, so I mainly use Wattage Control mode, but if this problem persists, possibly I will begin to research Temp Control... ideas on this? But back to my issue, does anyone have any insight on what could be happening? I love these new larger coils - the taste and vapor production is much better, but might have to go back to using the other ones if this keeps happening. Though I do think a $180 vape should be able to handle these coils without an issue since my $60 SMOK alien will run the batteries until they're dead with these coils at 140 watts with zero issue. In all honesty it is probably something I did on escribe which is why I am reaching out to you guys.

Per resistance error read here, probably the same problem.

Battery CSV only effects "fuel gauge" readings and not battery performance.

You might want to set your  Cell Soft Cutoff to 2.8 volts if not already done.

Use Escribe Device Monitor to see if your battery sag is hitting Cell  Soft Cutoff, I think cell hardware cutoff is 2.85 volts so setting it lower wouldn't accomplish anything.

I appreciate the insight on this. I have my soft cell cutoff set to 2.8V already, but what should I look for when I run the battery analyzer? which one of the two lines do I need to pay attention to? sorry for the noob questions! 

 

with regards to the resistance, I will take it apart and see what I can do and hopefully that fixes that issue.

The battery pack line, normally black, in Device Monitor not Battery Analyser (though that will work), hover the mouse over the lowest points to see how low the battery sags (I think the hw limit is 2.75 V).  When you start hitting that low limit on every puff your battery is struggling to supply enough power, connection issues can make it worse as well.

Okay I know what you are talking about. So do I adjust a value in escribe in order to avoid hitting that low limit? or will it hit it regardless? I have been vaping it at 130watts to lower the probability of it giving me that error message but it still cuts off at about 35% battery

Just curious as to what the unloaded (standing) voltage of the cells are when they start cutting off.

@dwcraig1 I will have to see when I get home. I will plug it in. I just don’t know which values to adjust on escribe to fix this issue.

I think the batteries are not suitable for the wattage you are vaping!!

Try to get Sony VTC5A...

If you are vaping at 140w -> P=U*I  -> I=P/U = 140 / (2,8*2) = 25A!

I used the 2,8V which are used for soft cell cutoff. (*2 because of 2 batteries)

Also the current is more than I calculated (estimated ~10% for the chip...)

The LG HG2 are only rated for 20A and could already be damaged...

So the voltage sinks down very fast and the "check battery" warning shows!

I recommend you to change your batteries!
