Inxept
Hello everyone. I've been lurking the forum for a few days and recently got a couple of boards to start redesigning our box. Here is my first post.I come across some challenges due to the 4 pin battery connector.Because the battery monitor connectors are at the bottom (And because I want to avoid hardwiring the cables to the board) all possible design routes force me to pull the battery away from the board a lot, making the box bigger in width, and this is only using the FullyMax 3S 11.1 900 mAh. So I played with an idea that entails repositioning the 4 pin battery connector to the top, somewhere behind the fire button. This option allows me to come really close between battery and board. I can also align the battery with the bottom of the battery connector (now repositioned at the top) which leaves me perfect clearance between 510 and battery connector, maximizing internal box volume and wiring.By repositioning the battery connector:a) I'm able to Maximize room inside the box.b) It leaves perfect clearance for a 510 connector and battery connectorc) By coming really close to the board we have more options for bigger batteries without making the mod larger in width and height.d) you can position position the fire button higher. e) I seem to also maximize wiring.I don't know if this is even an option at this stage but I thought I'd share my thoughts.Thank you Brandon for the help and to everyone contributing with useful information.Gaston - Inxept. VapingBad
Moving the balance connector is covered in this post https://forum.evolvapor.com/topic/68390-topic/?
Inxept
Thanks Vapingbad for the reply.I check the thread you mentioned. My question was regarding the possibility of having the connection at the to from factory default. My two boards came with the connector soldered so I figured that was standard configuration.I know I could install a remote connector or run wires but wanted to see if more people saw the need for this to happen from the getgo. I now realized this thread should be placed on the Battery section. So admin feel free to move it.
VapingBad
Strange I thought they all come without the balance connector soldered to the board. It would be OK to take it off and reattach on extension wires. The manual/datasheet has alternative positions for the connector.
macz
Probably presoldered by the vendor. @Inxept Where did you get the boards from?
Inxept
Yes I got two boards with the terminal pre soldered directly from Brandon. I guess they had a few laying around and wanted to make my life easier I went through the data sheet options. I will try to see if I can find a 90 degree connector (rather than running an extension) that would allow me to connect the Male connector, exactly where is at now (Opposite side of the USB connector) but parallel to the board. This way I can have the connectors facing up towards the fire button. Here is a picture illustrating what I mean and a picture of the board I received. and here is similar connector that I want to see if possible of using with 4 pins. Inxept
Thank you Rick. That is exactly what I had in mind. Would love to hear some pros and cons of any.
John
No reason you can't use a right angle connector solder through the holes, rather than a straight connector surface mounted. Or use an extension cable soldered into the holes. The battery taps don't carry any fast data signals or anything like that, and the max current is 40 milliamps, so you can pretty much move or wire them willy nilly and as long as they're making contact you're good to go. Inxept
This connector will work great for my design. Thanks RickAdair for the link!
