1. Is there an update I'm missing for the DNA 250C? I downloaded the latest version of Escribe, but it will not detect the board. The PC shows it as an "Evolv USB serial port".
2. Will these be up on the site soon? How do I get one?
3. I had 6 boards fail in my DIY mod in the first 4 months, the last was on Christmas day. I've noticed three different versions of the board. The current one appears to have slightly larger components. I actually bought a second board to eliminate down time. Thankfully the Evolv tech support and customer support are top notch.
4. Just happened to me. Vaping along fine for an hour or so. Went to take a hit and nothing. Blank screen. While I was reaching for a cable to plug into Escribe the error message popped up. I've had the blank screen issue a couple times over the last month or so. I usually remove the battery due to scares of previous board failures. Any answer yet?
5. More information and less insults might get the results you're looking for. I have been running SS for over a month now, with success. I have not seen much talk of SS problems here or other forums.
6. This is to only down side of Evolv's excellent customer service. Finding a board Evolv will not fix or replace will be a great challenge.
7. I have noticed my SS TC goes a little crazy at the temp limit. When looking at the chart the temp goes up smoothly until it reaches the set temp and then bounces up and down radically. It vapes fine, but the chart look all zig zaggy.
8. It sounds more like a hardware issue to me. Make sure all you connections are tight and that your atty is tightened down properly. Also make sure your 510 pin is clean and dry.
9. Soldered on a new fuse yesterday. Now the board reboots when I press the fire button. This is without an atomizer attached. So either the blown fuse was a symptom of something else wrong with the board, which I suspected when it blew, or I did something wrong when soldering the new fuse on. Either way this one's going to have to go back to Elolve.
10. I love my Velocity clone. I have also been using a Big Buddha clone as well. My box is large enough to fit the 26650 RDA on top. There is a ton of room for big NI200 coils.
11. 140W and 30ml isn't pushing the boards. They can handle over 200W but battery safety makes 200W the practical limit. I have no way to know if your iron was the common denominator but it is something almost always overlooked. ESD parts damage shows up in unexpected places often with odd symptoms. A part can be weakened but still function, and then fail under long term stress or just fail unexpectedly for no apparent reason. Again, I have no way to know if that's what's causing your failures, but four dead boards would lead me to look for a common denominator in my shop. A cheapo soldering iron that's not ESD safe would be first on the list of things to never use again. The one you linked says it's ESD safe and has good reviews, so hopefully it lives up to its description.
Thanks for the input. I'll keep this thread updated.
12. Right now I'm using a RS 15W el-cheapo. I have a better one on order. Leakage could be possible, but I would think that would show itself much sooner than I've experienced. The boards are lasting anywhere form a week to a month of nearly constant use. I also have a DNA40 and two Yihi devices I've built that have been running fine for months. I know I am pushing these boards hard, between 60W and 140W, over 30ml a day at times.
13. Just an update. I've had two more failures. Both popped the fuse, still recognized in Escribe. The first is on it's way to Evolve to get checked out and I am waiting for fuses to see if I can repair the second.
14. I believe this has been covered here multiple times. Change the setting in Escribe for the charge screen brightness from 0 to something higher.
15. That's a good idea. Have you had luck with SS as the core?
A build or two, worked OK. I went back to NI, the curve is too flat for me on TI and SS. I get more consistency off NI.
16. I have played around with A1 over various TC wire builds. My best luck has been to strip the clapton off under the terminals. This allows good contact to the TC wire and keeps the TCR accurate.
17. That is what I am thinking. I am not an electrical engineer, but you would think there would be some consistency in the failures. Really the only issue I can think of is that the board is getting too much heat when soldering on the large input wires. This time I trimmed some of the strands off to reduce the mass and allow faster soldering. I always tin and preheat the wire to minimize the solder time on the board.
18. My mod quit again this morning. Good thing I bought a second board so I can just swap them out and return the failed one without going without my favorite mod. What I want is some feedback from Evolv on possible causes. I see some minute difference between the new board I bought a few weeks ago and the replacement that was sent around the same time. This leads me to believe that it might be an issue with the boards themselves. I just want to make sure I am not doing something wrong. I've built a couple of mods before and this is the first that has had these issues. Maybe I'm asking too much to chain vape at 90W. Here are the four tickets so hopefully someone can look them over and see if there is a common problem and if there is something I need to do different. 394-ZHL-Y6TR (Ticket number: 2042) W5P-L5W-J7A6 (Ticket number: 2700) M9L-H3J-TZ8E (Ticket number: 3104) PQS-XGR-68VR (Ticket number: 3431)
19. Well, replacement board #2 just died. I went for a quick vape at lunch and it worked fine for a couple of hits and then nothing but the unmistakable smell of the magic smoke leaving a component on the board. I took the battery out just to be safe but before I did there was nothing on the screen and no response to any button press. I sure hope this trend doesn't continue. The first board just quit, vape... Vape... Nothing. The first replacement let out a pop when it died. I hope the next one doesn't go up in a ball of flames. I'll have to inspect the board when I get home and see if anything sticks out as a cause.
20. I've noticed that my DNA devices need to be set at a higher temp than my Hiyi devices. I have no way of determining which is more accurate, and don't really care. I would wager that the Evolv boards are more accurate.
21. For one reason or another, I've been without my DNA200 a couple of times. Each time I miss it. This device has changed the way I vape and 50J just doesn't cut it any more. It's not just the power, it's the smooth refined elegance as well. The run time on a 2200mah 3S lipo is fantastic as well. I've decided to build a second box so I should never have to be without. Anyone else find that the DNA200 has changed your vaping style?
