  1. Volcano's front line customer service is terrible. I have had some interaction with them and eachband every time they couldn't have been less helpful. I have no doubt that your questions could be easily answered with even the slightest effort. However, that isn't effort they are willing to give. I had some issues with my order. First person I spoke to didn't even try. Asked to speak to a manager and from that point it was all good. The people who answer twitter are even worse.

    the problem with that is SS doesnt give you very accurate temp control. i am currently waiting on some Ni200 28GA wire to be delivered. im planning on making a clapton from that 28GA Ni core with a 32GA 316SS wrap. i really like the taste of SS. Ni and Ti just seems off to me. hopefully this will maintain the flavor of SS with the TC accuracy of Ni. 

    ..... 3 weeks and still waiting on the order from fasttech. 
  3. wow! that looks amazing. fits like a glove. even with the extra 8mm of space it would still be decent fitting in your hand. my xcube 2 is longer. i have no idea why volcono hasnt released a kit with the same battery pack and a larger milled back plate. even have some larger grips. it would sell for a decent price for those who just need the extra capacity. i am curious about what the final capacity is when you finally get to run the battery analyzer.

  4. no, my apologies. that would be 100% correct in the case of batteries which can be swapped. sorry for the misunderstanding. in this case the open voltage of the pack would certainly be needed to get a starting point. i didnt even consider 18650 batteries because until the wismec mod is released it is still a very niche case. i wonder if any changes will be needed to escribe or the firmware to account for the fact that people will be using different capacity batteries between units and/or external charging. 

  5. well, im looking forward to trying the 28GA Ni core and 32GA SS wrap as soon as my nickel wire is delivered in 14 days - 8 months from china. and thanks for the input. its along the lines of what i was thinking for making a clapton. allow the increased heat from the Ni to radiate outwards from the core to not only heat the SS wire but also because if it were the other way around the TCR curve would be almost that of SS (instead of Ni) and that would defeat the intended purpose to stabilize TC. 

    your experience with twisting is interesting. i never through about the potential hotspots due to the stretching of the nickel wire causing issues. 

  6. i think i understand where you are going with this. yea, the discharge curve would compensate for the voltage at the extremes of capacity to give you a more accurate measure of remaining capacity. however, i dont know why this would even be necessary. it seems to me that if the total capacity in Wh is known after the test is run, and the board obviously knows how much power has been discharged each draw, why would capacity not be calculated that way. that would be by far the best method. if you notice the battery meter losing its accuracy as you near the lifespan of the battery pack you can just run the test again to calculate the new total capacity at that point in time. there may even be a way for the mod (or more likely escribe) to extrapolate the new total capacity as the pack is used. that would be a lot more complicated though.

    i actually had a question for you. i was wondering if you had any personal experience using hybrid wires in TC mode. i am considering making a hybrid Ni/SS clapton with a 28GA Ni core with 32GA SS wrap. the idea is to stabilize the TC with the Ni core while maintaining the flavor of SS. i have asked around in a few areas and nobody has personal experience that they are willing to share. 

  8. perhaps im not understanding your question. from what i understand there are two scenarios:
    - the battery capacity is calculated by voltage. you would have a large change in the displayed capacity at full charge and near empty. this obviously isnt the case
    - the mod calculates the remaining capacity of the battery given the Wh specified in escribe. this results in a constant change in the battery meter as the battery discharges with no steep drops when fully charged or near empty. using the theoretical capacity of the battery would give a decent approximation of the capacity of the pack but for a truly accurate battery gauge the exact capacity would need to be known (and can be determined using the battery analyzer). 

    are you saying something else?

  9. 1) yes and no. nickel wire has been used in coils for a while now. i believe the primary concern initially when people started using Ni wire was that the resistance was so low. even looking back a year, how many regulated mods (and even more so with mechs) allowed you to fire down to sub 0.2ohm? battery safety was certainly an issue until recently. as for the gasses people talk about being released by Ni.... im a little more skeptical. it may very well do that. however, if that is the case you would be breathing it in anyways because of the way that so many coils today are designed. also, there is no issue at all vaping Ni in power mode. it would just have an extremely low ramp up time. when you start off your vape in TC mode the higher wattage quickly heats the wire before the wattage is cut when the coil is at temperature. so without the real time wattage control your coil would take much longer to heat up because you dont have that initial burst. for example when you start your vape lets say 75W is going to the coil. after perhaps a second that is down to lets say 30W. if you set the mod at 30W yourself there would be no difference because that is the equilibrium point for that temperature. however, this is compounded because of the nature of the wire. Ni has a steel TCR curve. so when the coil is cold it takes even higher wattage to heat the coil up (as easily seen if you are running a 0.15ohm coil at 40W vs. a 0.5ohm coil at 40W). so the final result is that you need even a larger initial burst of power because of the resistance change to get the coil up to that equilibrium point. the same thing can be said about Ti wire although not to the same extent as nickel. something like stainless can be run in either mode because the TCR is much more constant. 

    2) thats unlikely with these coils. if you look inside the top of the coil both the nickel leads and the SS wire are touching cotton. this would create uneven heating across the linear length of the wire and if you arent careful could cause burning of the wick in certain areas. if the coils were made from the start with the intention of them being SS TC coils i dont believe we would be having near the issue we are currently. 

  10. from an accuracy standpoint, once the battery analyzer is run so that the total capacity given regular usage is know, it would be best if both the battery icon and percentage were calculated based upon the capacity and not the voltage. i believe this is the case already. i have not noticed an accelerated decrease in either the battery bar or percentage when fully charged or near empty which is when you would expect to see the meter change the most if it were being calculated using voltage as most mods do. 

  11. yup thats the point. the higher intended resistance for the coil the more SS there is and thus you would have less nickel. however, while the SS wire you want to heat up is, so is the nickel wire. in power mode this doesnt matter at all. however, in TC mode the TCR of the nickel needs to be taken into acount as well. so i have reasoned (although im not sure) that on the higher resistance coils the ratio of stainless:nickel is higher. what would result is an effective TCR closer to that of SS than you would have on the 0.25ohm coils. this is just something i may be thinking is the case to explain why the vape in TC seems to be better. uwell could also accomplish this by having the same length nickel leads on either coil but with the 0.5ohm coil just having thinner wire. its very difficult to tell from peeking in the top.
