Technically Preheat is impossible on Kanthal coils. It requires knowing temperatures, and operates under temperature protection. If resistances read correctly, Preheat should be safe.

DNA 75 Color SP27 does include a Boost feature (International Edition only) which, if enabled, performs a similar function on Kanthal coils. I will be curious to see how well it works for people.

It's been weeks and everybody here is fully aware that, not being temperature controllable, Kanthal can just be used with a boost function.

I wrote this more than once and always referring to the fact that it's available for DNA 75C. Reading the above is quite demoralising. It's not as if I love repeating the same things over and over... :(

Are you looking for the two stage setpoint, or are you looking for more power? The 200 and 250 are limited by the fuse on input current, the 75 by output voltage, and the 60 by thermal margin.

So we could conceivably add the functionality, but it'd be limited to the nameplate max power of the boards. Is that worth adding?

Hi John, considering that people have pretty much unanimously stated that they would be more thank ok with the two stage setpoing, for big Kanthal coils, basically, do you think it could be added? DNA 75/200/250 have plenty of power (according to the coil you can reasonably think of using) to have a preheat programmed, as it happens on DNA75C.

Please, do not abandon your first clients. The product is working still fine, don't force us to upgrade for the sake of it. Thanks.

This works as I have done it, not supported and tricky to get it working. It worked well for me but I have no use for it as I do TC only.

    Good luck

BTW, all the settings except for initial wattage are artificial so to speak.

Yes. It does. As the "author" of that trick (check the thanks in the post), I'd still like having an official solution to this, instead of a workaround. :)

I'm looking for the two stage setpoint, assuming it's the same thing as preheat. Limited to the nameplate max power.

I have two DNA75 and I'd like to be able to use preheat up to its specs, for a variable amount of time (as it's already doable with temp measurable wires).

Thanks for taking this into consideration.

Sure I just took his answer (AND BRILLIANT SOLUTION) and turned it into a topic, so it can get the deserved attention :D

By the way, thanks yoseff. I didn't think to do this but it's much appreciated. And thanks for giving me credit. It's a small thing but yesterday, when I discovered people using it, I was a little bit proud. :)

    Cheers!

  6. Out of the blue this is happening. I left the mod charging on my bedside table tonight, woke up in the middle of the night (it happens quite often) and unplugged it. This morning I started vaping and I saw charge at 20%.

Since I had to travel all day, I put the mod away and used a different one.

Came back home now, attached it to Escribe and Escribe sees it. Now the battery is at 13%. You can see my monitor diagnostics below.

I tried different cables and different chargers. What I notice is that:

    a) The three cells seem balanced.
    b) There is a *very* little charge coming through the USB cable (0.015A instead of the usual 0.5A). This is not enough to make the bolt appear but it's enough to stop the display from turning off (it sees the connection).

I now detach it while waiting for some help. :(

    Thanks.

  7. You can actually "cheat". You load the curve for Kanthal from Steam Engine. You'll see it's perfectly flat, with all the data points sitting at 1.0 coefficient. You leave most of them alone but start raising them by 0.1 after 392F°, 0.1 for every following point. You then select the new material for the VW profile, you instead opt for temperature control, set up preheat to your liking and vape. The circuit will respect the preheat values (I set the punch at 11, so it just erogates the preheat power for the preheat time duration), then, measuring the resistance and seeing it doesn't get higher, it will simply keep on outputting the max power you have set up.

And that's preheat for non temperature sensing coils in variwatt. :)
