Anyone have an issue with device reading full batteries as empty?

I have an HCigar vt133.

When I press the trigger, the display lights up and shows the batteries as totally empty, and won't fire. I popped the batteries into a different vt133, and sure enough, both batteries full and working fine. I even tried another set of new batteries, checked to make sure they're fully charged, and same result. Display comes on, battery indicator reads 0%. 

Any ideas what could be causing this?

So here's what I did, I opened my Opus200 and unplugged the balance connector from the board.  Battery icon shows empty, firing throws up "shorted" and didn't fire.

Gee, I wasn't thinking correctly, your setup doesn't use the plug.
