Did you happen to get this working the way you wanted it to and how do you know it needed 100ohm resistor

I don't want to use an smd led my plan was to wire a push button led directly to the board . It has 4 pins . 2 for the led pos neg 2 for the fire . I found this diagram that some said they are gonna use and this is how i want it . Is this possible? .

Sorry but im new to the resistors but why are you using a 100 ohm resistor . Can someone explain that in detail . Can you use a smaller ohm or bigger ohm resistor in its place . What are you using to calculate this for the dna 200 chip to know which one to use?
