Exact same fix here for a Hcigar VT133 (serial 8638). Seems that it doesn't matter what language you use, auto-detect is the culprit. Even though I use 'English' by default, with 'auto-detect' checked, the software STILL didn't work for me 'out of the box' (v1.0.42). Once I set the language manually (to English), things fell into perfect order when trying the first upload of settings. Thanks for sharing your findings!!
