  1. Cheers all - Back for round two.  About two months ago, I posted about my Triade DNA 250 never getting above 0.58A.  Ran a train of chargers and wall warts on it with no difference in charge rates displayed, and being a device acquired 3rd party and no experience wiring/reassembling the board, looks like I may be out the warranty and will have questionable results with sending the board to Evolv for review.

So, trying anything further I can to fix it before deciding next steps, I picked up a USB tester.  I have it plugged in a dedicated charging port for a laptop dock rated at 5V/2A, showing 5.07V from the dock.  Also picked up three fresh VTC6's.  Plugged it in and got the same results; 0.57-0.58A.

However, the USB tester is reading 4.86V/1.27-1.30A(fluctuating between) while the board screen is reading 4.56V/0.57A.  Tried a few other charging systems

    • 5V/1.2A wall wart read 5.06V no load - 4.89V/1.29A load
    • 5V/2A wall wart read ~5.3V no load - 5.18V/2.32A load
Each rang in about the same at the DNA...~4.54-4.56V, 0.53-0.58A, 2.55-2.57W.

Any thoughts on the discrepancies?  I have seen other users report similar issues where one DNA 250 displays ~2A and another will not exceed 0.**.  Seems the reader is accurate, but no idea what to make of the 0.30V/~0.7A differences between the meter and board figures.

Escribe shot attached; the drop and steps up in USB Current were from manually setting max amp to 0.35, 0.5, and 1.0A.

Not a full reply, just a few thing that may not be so obvious.  Charge current is limited to 1 A while a data connection is open to the board (dissconn from EScribe), charge current is limited to 1 C, charge current will be reduced if the board get hot, powerbanks resetting is usually the pb maxing out and not the load.  I can mostly get > 9.5 W charging with a cheap short cable and decent supply.  I would select USB current, voltage and power for the charge screen fields to investigate this, my experience is voltage drop in the supply+cable is normally the limiting factor, if the charge rate drops later in the cycle it could be board temp.

Much appreciated for the response!  I did some additional fiddling in EScribe and with the Triade to get any change in the charge, but no such luck.

-Board temp would fluctuate between 88F-110F(hottest it got) and it seemed to dial back the current to 0.2-0.4A once it reached the peak during charging.  Good to see board temp safety protocols are working nicely, but still a bummer about the charge rate capacity

-Power bank is tried and true at 1A, but after attempting to charge the Triade with it, seems the bank may have blown a fuse(if possible)...refusing to charge any device.  Have not tried to recharge the bank yet, but worth noting

-Screen settings recommended were the ones I have live right now to monitor rates on wall chargers; got it plugged in on a dedicated charging port on the laptop dock rated at 900mAh and it's sitting at 0.22A/87.9F/81.3F Current/Board/Room respectively

Nick responded to my ticket saying the best bet is to get with Lost Vape's repair center to send it in.  Stands a chance that there is something malfunctioning in the charging circuit, and with it still being under warranty, trying that avenue before cracking it open and running extra tests.

    Thanks again for the response!
  3. Cheers all - New to the forum and a ticket is open already....buuuuut while waiting on a response, figured I would check on thoughts/opinions around an issue.

My Triade DNA 250 only gets to 0.52-0.58A charging over the micro USB.  I took a look and seems a couple other folks are having similar issues without much resolve.  So, here's what we have:

Mod: Lost Vape Triade DNA 250
    EScribe Firmware(s): 1.2 SP5a to start, down(?)graded to 1.2 SP5 for further testing
    Batteries: 3x LG HE4 18650, 2500mAh @ 20A
    -Type: LiPo
    -Cap: 27.75Wh
    -Cutoff: 2.8V
    -Max Peak Input: 28A

Got a screen attached in DevMon currently using the USB cable that came with the mod, plugged in a USB3.0.  The batteries are not all married cells, but only vary in voltage by +/- 0.05V at a given time.  What I have tried so far:

-Dedicated 5V:2A charger that powers a RasPi2B without issues
-2x Micro USB cables rated for 1A in a total of 6x USB 2.0 ports at 0.5A, 3x USB 3.0 ports at .9A, and a dedicated charging USB port at 1A
-The included MicroUSB cable in a variety of the ports above
-LG V10 9V/5V:1.8A dedicated wall charger with mfg. cable
-LG Nexus 5 5V:1.2A dedicated wall charger with Triade cable

    In EScribe:
-Tried on the latest update firmware 1.2 SP5a and downgraded to 1.2 SP5 to see if it made any difference
-28A max input, then 2A max input, 9A max input, 20A max input...essentially just threw in some values to see if any change was monitored
-Set USB Current Limit to 2A (more to come on that)
    -Did a soft reset
    -Did a hard reset
-Tried another user's EScribe settings that was confirmed to get ~1.9A charge
-Tried two different sets of 18650s, once at ~20% and another at ~80% both times

Nada.  No matter the settings, charger, source, firmware, profile, etc., it's still only registering 0.52-0.58A charge.  Fun facts discovered in the trials:

-USB Power Bank tried and tested at 1A output started charging, then disconnected and the draw indicator on the bank turned off
-Set USB Current will reduce the max charge if set for something like 0.3A and 0.1A, but will not exceed the 0.58A if I then set the max to 1A, 1.1A, 2A, etc.

I'm personally straight out of ideas.  I haven't tested any of the ports to confirm their output, but you'd think with the variety alone, I would have landed on something successful if it was going to be successful.  As said, a ticket's open to get some extra eyes on it, but anyone have any ideas of anything else to test out before then?

    Thanks all!
